How Much Lead Time You Should Give Yourself Developing Products

We've all had those questions in our business that either stop our train of thought or slow our level of productivity down. Ranging from product creation, affiliate marketing, teleseminars, financial matters, I know in my own business I've come upon hundreds of business questions that I wish I could know the answer to. So, in this article I am going to answer two questions I've had about product creation.

Lets start with the first question:

If I am going to be doing a product launch that involves monthly send outs and teleseminar, how much lead time should I allow and how much of the product should I have finished before it is launched?

When it comes to product creation and lead time, I would give yourself as much as possible and the reason being is product creation for some reason, one way or another, always tends to take longer than you expect.

Let's take for example a 12 month course. For that type of product I would give yourself a three to four month buffer and continue to stay that far ahead throughout the course as it goes along. By doing this you will keep yourself in a real safe zone.

That is the reality of product development, you never really know how long it will take you because of the unforeseen difficulties. It would be great to get products created really quickly, but usually there are hiccups along the way with delivery or packaging.

You have to make sure you give yourself a buffer zone so you will be able to get the product created as quick as possible. To just get the product completed and staying ahead should be your number one focus and keeping that buffer zone will help you do just that.

Second question:

What are some quick way to create and sell a product?

There are a number of ways to create product even if you do not have it and doing a teleseminars series and selling that series is probably the easiest and fastest way and here is a good example. I recently sold a number of different courses that I am starting for the first time and we are doing them as a teleseminars series. I turned those calls into a series of products. So it had not been created yet. It was brand spanking new but as soon as I conducted each teleseminar, I took those recordings, got them transcribed, and built a course from it.

This is definitely something you can do and a method that I would suggest to make things easier is to map out what content you want to teach about and put it in a modular format. This model makes it easy to create content. Once you have a major topic for a particular module you can then dive deep into all the individual strategies that fit under that category. You can really crank out a lot of valuable information pretty quickly this way and by using the call itself to create the content you don't have to have it ahead of time.
